Hello from Oz!
(DEC '19-JAN '20)
Hello dear friends. Here is a selection of photos from my time here so far, as a slideshow below.
As you might know, it’s summertime over here in Australia where I am. So I’m lucky to get to swim in waterholes, lagoons and beautiful beaches and wear tank tops and flip flops! But, perhaps many of you have already heard, there continues to be a serious drought here and there are a very disturbing number of bushfires raging all along the East coast of Australia. Many of these fires are of an intensity and scope our under-funded firefighters have never had to deal with before. Despite the associated feeling of dread, it’s wonderful to be here and be having quality time with family and to experience the still beautiful and amazingly resilient landscapes and wildlife.
Some of you might wonder why I’m away in Australia for so long. First of all I have a huge family to catch up with which include my Mum, 4 sisters and 2 brothers, and extended family (and of course, old friends). To top it off, some family live quite far away from Sydney so I’m traveling quite a bit to see some of them. After all the intense catch ups and travel and once Christmas and New Years are past, I’ll be focusing time on helping organise my late father’s artworks into a catalogue and doing some things to help around his bush property. Then, as a grand finale before I fly back to Portland, there’s my Mum’s 60th birthday (we say Mum here instead of Mom!). Missing you all back in Portland. Happy New Year! I'm looking forward to more good times and music together in 2020.
