Mirabai Peart's Violin Studio
testimonials
"I have had the pleasure and good fortune of working with Mirabai for nearly a year now. She has a contagious love for music and loves helping her students blossom in their musicianship. She brings a passion for a variety of violin and fiddle music and enthusiasm for meeting me where I am and leading me toward my next level of playing. Mirabai is also very dedicated - recording notes from our lessons, emailing me scores and recordings of songs we're working on, and even occasionally recording and sending me videos to assist me in practicing. I'm grateful to have found her!"

"I've been working with Mirabai for about 3 months now and having a blast. I'm excited to practice when I'm home and she gives me wonderful, useful, and helpful advice to keep me moving forward and continue learning. Each lesson is a joy, and what she has me learning is technical, varied, and fun! I picked up the violin to enjoy and appreciate it and that's exactly what I'm doing. My experience has been challenging but not intimidating, with all of the tools to help me get better each week."

"I got a wild hair and decided to start violin lessons at 55 y/o with no prior experience. Mirabai has been very supportive and encouraging, and is an excellent instructor."

"I'm so grateful to have found Mirabai as a teacher. She is a wealth of knowledge in technique, style, and a delivery of performance. Also her intuition on noticing and helping develop a players individual sound is incredibly valuable."

"Mirabai first came to my attention as lead violinist in one of my operas (I'm a local composer). I found her playing and professionalism impeccable, however that is not necessarily any indication of pedagogical aptitude. However as my son's violin teacher at the time was not satisfactory (my standards are high), and as Mirabai was not only fluent in the classical genre but also fluent in other modalities that interested my son (Eastern European music, specifically) I thought I'd give her a try.
Almost immediately I found myself wishing my son had been under her tutelage from the beginning! Mirabai achieves what only the best teachers achieve: through a measured balance of patience and nurturing, while holding out expectation at the same time she not only imparts all of the necessary knowledge, but she helps create and set-up the conditions where her student can discover the knowledge for himself. I believe that this is the one element that all great teachers have in common; it gives
the student a sense of ownership and pride and the electric feeling of following the scent of a great adventure of discovery.
I've spoken generally, but I would also observe that Mirabai has a very detailed knowledge of the aspects of form that are vital to playing with flexibility and ease and besides being an adept classical player has a very strong working knowledge of improvising in styles ranging from jazz, to Balkan, to Klezmer. This straddling of many worlds, I have found, creates the best players, players whose eyes are not glued to the page but rather can comprehend the gestalt of a composer's intention and then can execute that vision with grace and fluidity. Perhaps I digress, but I only do as these are the players who I want to work with in the future and rare teachers like Mirabai give me hope for the next generation of string players. I would finally add that she is a compassionate teacher, very organized (after each lesson she sends out a pdf of what we've worked on and what to work on) punctual, and communicative."

"I took violin lessons from Mirabai for about three months. I am an adult, and I had very little violin training prior. Always punctual and very professional, she possesses not only immense musical talent but also a keen teaching aptitude. She took a rigorous teaching approach while also accommodating the student's personal musical preferences. Classes with her were well above my expectation, and I would like to resume some time in the future."
